Nashville

(Oct. 7 – Dist: 26.6 mi; Avg Speed: 6.3 mph; TTT: 5:05 hrs)
We woke up to some light river smoke so we were able to depart when we got our coffee ready and the two anchors on board. It was another beautiful day as we headed for Nashville. We stopped at Rock Harbor for some fuel and spoke to the owner of the marina. His ex is Wynona Judd and he has spent a lot of time in Nashville. He gave us the names of some of his favourite bars and restaurants in the city. We have since tried a couple and they have been superb.

We were also able to see firsthand some of the damage that the floods did in May of this year. The water rose 42 feet above normal pool levels. His restaurant was totally wiped out; they were still clearing the rubble and he showed us the high water level on his maintenance shed. It is hard to believe that the river could rise that high. The flood waters rose a number of feet above the roadway that is above our dock here. You can see how high the walls are and it was higher than that. Even the Grand Ole Opry was flooded so that the stage was covered in a couple of feet of water. They only just reopened a couple of weeks ago.

The District which is thee place for the nightlife, bars and restaurants, is just at the top of the hill. Just walking down Broadway is such an interesting sight. One never knows who you might run into. Each bar has live performances and people wander from bar to bar.

We spent a good half day at the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame. It was well done and took one from the start of country through to the present. One learns how the different off shoots of country music started, why and by whom. The hall of fame has plaques for every person who has been inducted.
