Delaware City Marina, DE

(Friday July 15 - Dist: 11.8 mi; Avg Speed: 9.2 mph; TTT: 1:15 hrs)

The Pond
Delaware City is the home port for our good Looper friends Mitch and Carole on Serendipity.  This is their home not too far from the marina.  It is a neat home which they designed themselves on a huge wooded property.  We spent the whole weekend with them and had the opportunity to help them move some of their belongings into their condo.  While looping and cruising they have rented the house and so are setting the condo to handle their new lifestyle.

We lucked into visiting on "Delaware City Weekend" where all kinds of activities were going on in the small town.  The highlight was a very, very good fireworks display which we could watch clearly from the deck at the marina.  Mitch and Carole also showed us how to eat hard shell crabs properly.  We had a feast on Sunday.  I was surprised at how much meat there actually was under the shells.  I think that I have now mastered the technique so we will be ordering them again, if not on this trip then the next time that we are down.

Delaware City Marina is located  in the old C&D canal.  It is narrow and has a fast moving tidal current so, since Linda and I were so close for this leg of the trip, we timed our arrival for slack water.  No problems, docking was a breeze unlike some other fellow, Grouchy Loopers whom I will not mention by name.

It was a very fine weekend.
