Demopolis Lock and Dam the second last lock on the system. Hooray. Actually it has not been that difficult or we are just getting good. The only other locks that we experienced with floating bollards were the two American Locks on the St. Lawrence Seaway going to Cornwall, ON. It was not a good experience, at all. We had trouble getting the lines on the bollard and Ken let the swim platform touch the wall at one point. It must have been the crew that I had on board that day (hey, Ken and Paulette). lol Anyways we have managed all of the locks quite well....touch wood.
Again we had a nice day to travel. The shoreline was a bit different as well. There was still some of the rock and then we started to see more sand. This was a long leg, 70 miles, so we were glad to reach our destination for the night, Bashi Creek.
Bashi Creek is a narrow creek but has fairly deep water. We did run into some anchoring etiquette concerns but they worked themselves out. Two other boats were just ahead of me when we arrived at the anchorage. The one boat was going to go to the other side of the river on a sand bank and his travelling partner (IA) decided to use Bashi Creek. He told me on the radio to go in first because he was going to anchor in the mouth of the creek because he wanted to leave early. I told him that 2 other, slower boats were coming to anchor in the creek as well. IA did not seem to care; he said maybe they will be able to get around me if they want. As it turned out, he could not set his anchor and kept running into the trees on the sides. Our travelling companions arrived and with only a minor altercation with a submerged log, Windsong rafted to us and Serendipity set behind us. Cocktails were aboard Q's End.
