Spanish Cay

(Sunday March 6 - Dist: 98.7 mi; Avg Speed: 10.8 mph; TTT: 9:00 hrs)

Our flotilla of 8 boats left Old Bahama Bay at the break of day in order to complete the 100 mile leg that we had agreed upon.  This decision was mainly brought about by the narrow weather window that was predicted and by the fact that one of our boats was expecting family to arrive in Marsh Harbour in a couple of days.  We were all keen to see more of the Bahamas so off we went.  It was a great day to travel; the sky was blue and the water was turquoise...beautiful.

Spanish Cay is a private island with a nice marina and resort.  It can handle yachts up to 150 feet long; I think that the owner of the island is a partner in Richmond Yachts and some fast food chain.  It was quite nice but isolated.  It did have a good restaurant and pool which was a welcome sight after our long day.  Many of the crew went shelling the next morning and hit the mother lode; tons of shells and other junk from the sea.

It was a good spot for the one night.
