Casino Town in Joisey

Farley State Marina, Atlantic City NJ

(Friday July 22 - Dist: 44.7 mi; Avg Speed: 16.4 mph; TTT: 2:45 hrs)

The wind finally shifted to the south west during the night so the fog was more of a heavy haze.  We did not hurry to give the air a chance to clean up and sure enough visibility was almost 2 miles when we ventured out of the inlet.  On top of decent visibility the ocean was kind to us.  There were gentle 2 foot rollers off our stern and no chop on the surface.  It was actually pleasant something I am sure that Linda had never envisaged.  We were planning on only spending one night in Atlantic City so we went on plane the whole way and did the 45 miles in under 3 hours.

The marina was actually right outside the Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel, the former Trump Casino.  I was disappointed.... in the casino not the marina.  The marina was quite large, with good docks, helpful dock hands and clean facilities.  One had to go through the bar on the dock side to get to the marina office.  My kind of place... except that it was so damn hot.  We decided to eat at the casino and that is where the surprises started.  The building was old and looked it.  The decor looked to be from my parents era and there were no beautiful fountains, magnificent buildings or lobbies... just not what I see on TV about Vegas.  I kinda thought that AC was the Vegas of the east coast.  The food was costly but I must admit that it was good and served with real class.  I even got comp'd a beer so all was not lost on me.

Linda and I decided that since it was so hot that we would not try to take in a number of different casinos but rather experience (read blow our money) at the Golden Nugget.  After a couple of hours of playing Video Poker, we went to the roof top pool.  It was a small pool with many kids and families splashing around and no patio bar; so again disappointing from what I have seen on TV about the Vegas pools.

After meeting our new neighbours on the dock we headed to the casino to win our money back.  We lost less this time so a mini victory I think and then picked up some dinner to enjoy on the boat with a bottle of wine.  I could say that is all that we could afford but that would be stretching the true.... a little.

Well when we come down the coast again we will stop here and check out a couple of the other casinos  maybe even the newest one, the Rebel, which is currently under construction and hoping to open next spring.
