We had 5 days of fun in Frankfort. The town seemed to have everything and we took advantage; and then to top it off, friends from our first Loop, a member of the Abacos Team, Bade Boomer arrived on Monday.
Frankfort seemed much different than our first time through here. More shops were open and it seems that they had a couple of new restaurants in the town, even a couple of high end, fancy places. We tried a few and were generally pleased with each. The pizza at the Villa Marine Bar was quite good; I do recommend the "Yacht" speciality pizza if you like lots of meat, peppers and mushrooms.
The weather was good and hot except the day the front came through. Waves were crashing over the break wall and sand from the beach was whipping down the streets. We got bouncing so badly that night that I had to get up a 3 AM to take some gravol (like Dramamine for my US friends). Sea sickness, in bed, after partying, is no fun. Fortunately, the gravol worked and I was ready to go the morning.
The beaches and the sand are very nice in this part of Michigan even rivaling the beaches of Florida. We walked for miles along the sand dunes, swam in the lake and took the dinghy along the beach and all the way around Lake Betsie. As I said it was just like being on vacation.
Other Loopers are catching up to us while we were dawdling around. Loopy Kiwis officially declared the start of their Loop on the Friday that we arrived in Frankfort. This couple from New Zealand purchased a Silverton aft cabin and will be doing the Loop over this next year. Jade a Brazilian trawler caught up to us as well. This couple and their 3 year daughter left Brazil 3 years ago and are now about half way around the Loop. It is the people that make the Loop so interesting.
Finally, one of the hilights of our stay, was the BBQ on our last night. Six of us went to the fish shop and purchased some fresh Lake Trout, $15.00 in total. I had the honours of cooking and fortunately the fish and the roasted potatoes turned out well, the fresh salad was superb and seven of us ate like kings. It was so pleasant that we spent the whole evening at the picnic table. No mosquitoes and 7 bottles of wine, it doesn't get much better.
