The 5th largest city in Tennessee and the place that the Monkees sang about. We did not get to see much of the town because there were so many frigg’n hills to climb. A marina was planned but a flood a couple of years earlier used up the funds that had been set aside.
Evidently the flood waters covered the railroad bridge in the background and rose half way up the building in the center with the green roof. Docking here on the 280 foot floating concrete dock was free as long as you registered with the Parks and Rec Dept.
The Montgnomery Courthouse just kitty corner from the historic Customs House was damaged in a 1999 tornado but the exterior was restored since then.
A good meal and some local draft beer at the Blackhorse Pub made for a pleasant overnight stay.
