These are some of the views from our back deck. Belmont Bay Harbor is a beautiful marina on the Occoquan River. Woodbridge is within biking distance but the best part is that the small touristy town of Occoquan is about 15 minutes up river and easily accessible by dinghy. The trip down from DC was interesting. Jack and Lynn on Felix joined us in order to visit Occoquan. It was good to have company on board but....our GPS went dead and we could not recover it. I am not saying that they are to blame but why now after 5,200 miles it goes dead?? ;:>) You know that I am just kidding. Apparently my GPS sensor is flaky and hopefully by Tuesday it will be replaced. It was a little unnerving to travel without it even though we had paper charts. It is nice to know exactly where one is in relation to shallow water.
So far our vacation here has been busy. On arrival, the four of us toured, ate and drank in Occoquan before they took the metro back to DC. On Tuesday I worked on the GPS unit until totally frustrated and then made arrangements for a service technician to come out. On Wednesday we biked through Woodbridge, literally (we missed a turn), and then played 18 holes of golf at the Osprey Golf Course which is adjacent to the marina. It is a picturesque and difficult course and fun to play.
Thursday was special because we had a chance to visit with Barb and Randy from Lazy Dolphin. Their home port is about 20 miles south of us so they picked us up and we spent the day together. After eating in Occoquan, we went to the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Again very impressive. The displays in the different galleries were so realistic looking. Then after happy hours, we went back to the Museum to listen to a concert by the brass ensemble of the Marine Corps Band. A superb day with our friends.
I will have another update, I am sure for this area so I will leave you with a number of photos.
